Yesterday we went to Chinatown in Yokohama. Chinese chefs coming to work in Yokohama's Chinatown have to go through a "retraining" program because Japanese people only like Japanese style Chinese food. My Japanese friends add mustard and vinegar to all Chinese dishes.
Why do have to line up in threes? Is there some cultural significance? As you go on to Hiroshima, I was wondering whether it is treated like Auschwitz or has it survived? I'm looking forward to hearing about your visit there and what types of emotion it evokes in both of you.
I too was wondering about the lining up in threes. I also think it's funny that the Japanese treat Chinese food the same way we do. We love Chinese food, but only done American style. No dried fish scales for me. Is the Chinatown in Japan anything like the American Chinatowns? Like in San Fransisco? How weird. Also, would you be willing to possibly cut my hair when I get to RI? Love, Your very gracious niece, Calli
I am not sure about why three but I do know that nothing is ever sold in fours. Four is a very unlucky number. Place settings are sold in sets of five. Hiroshima has kept ground zero as a "Peace Park" and memorial, otherwise it is a very vibrant city where nothing is older than August 6, 1945. Katie and I really loved our visit to Hiroshima. Yes, I will cut your hair Calli.
I just visited your blog for the first time and I love your pictures. They are truly fantastic. I'm so glad to hear that you had fun with Katie during her visit. Maybe Tim and I can get over there at some point before you leave. I hope you and uncle Mike are doing well. Give him a kiss for me. I can't wait to see you guys at the engagement party!
Please come visit us. We are moving next week into a big house on a hill. Mike is away for four months, tonight he is in sydney, I am meeting up with him in Brisbane. I can't wait to see you all and help celebrate your big news.
Follow a first time bride in her 50's as she transitions from the glamorous life of a Maine hairdresser to learning what not to do as a Navy wife. When we last saw our heroine she was moving from Japan to DC.............
